Systems for Schools and Educational Enviroments

As a school, college or educational facility you will understand the dangers that the modern world faces and Solutions On Security are working to make these enviroments a safer place.

Our aim is to leave you with a secure lockdown system. A school or educational environment is seen as a safe place for both pupils and staff as there are plenty of laws in the UK that make sure this is the case.

However, there are are still dangers outside peoples control that a school needs to be cautiois of. To secure this sense of safety, actions need to be taken to prepare for threats.

This could involve CCTV, panic alarms and access control systems, establishing a safety area or introducing instant communication methods across the entire school. There's plenty of things you can do for a schools safety.

Ofsted Concerns

Whilst Ofsted inspectors are primarily concerned with the performance of the school with regards to learning, they will refer to site security and will want the school to demonstrate that they are at the least meeting basic criteria to protect pupils, staff and the premises.

Their latest framework document points to ‘the effectiveness of health and safety policies and procedures, including conducting necessary risk assessments as well as regular checks on equipment and premises and the effectiveness of arrangements to provide a safe environment and secure school site.’

A poor showing with regards to the safety of pupils in the case of emergency will impact an Ofsted inspection negatively, therefore schools are looking to implement a lockdown system in accordance with their policy.

It is vital that the school carry out a regular fire and security risk assessment of the premises and review it regularly.

Staff should be made aware of potential risks and subsequent mitigating measures that have been put in place and know the differences between a fire alert (meaning evacuation) and a lockdown alert (meaning stay on the premises and make your way to your classroom or nearest place of safety).

Regular training and testing of the equipment should be carried out.

Experts in Lockdown Systems

A normal reaction to danger in your school would be to evacuate to a safe place. But what if the normal evacuation place isn't safe? Then a lockdown needs to take place, or in some cases, an evactuation. How do you alert an entire school to the difference though? The DofE recommends a set of different alert sounds for different scenarios to avoid confusion in an emergency.

So if that's the problem...

Solutions On Security offers a range of lockdown alert systems designed for schools. Our systems can integrate with your existing fire alarm to provide distinct alerts, ensuring no confusion with fire alarms. If your fire alarm doesn’t support lockdown features, we offer a fully wireless system with customizable alert sounds. In an emergency, evacuating due to a fire alarm-like sound could be dangerous. Our public address system allows for voice announcements and lockdown notifications.

The standalone wireless system is cost-effective, easy to install, and minimizes disruption. Designed with schools in mind, our lockdown and evacuation alert system ensures clear communication during emergencies. It can be activated from any terminal, instantly alerting students and staff.

Each transmitter has a 1km range and can connect with up to 50 units, working both indoors and outdoors. These battery-powered alarms operate without cables, ensuring alerts are heard even during breaks. Unique, pre-recorded alerts enhance safety without exposing staff to threats. With proper training, your school can respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.
